Our client is looking to directly hire 'someone special' in a Windows and Unix, Senior SA role.

a) Summary of Accountabilities/Responsibilities
The System Administrator (SysAdmin), under the supervision of the IT Operations Manager, works independently to develop and maintain all of the operational systems and co-management of remote systems. The SysAdmin is responsible for maintaining the integrity and security of over 25 Windows, 1 HP-UNIX server and 2 Solaris systems, which support multiple Japan client sites and internal staff of over 150 personnel. The SysAdmin also develops support programs and support systems for existing applications. The SysAdmin is expected to conduct system analysis and development, with limited support and direction from professional staff, to keep our systems current with changing technologies. The SysAdmin is responsible for emergency response as needed to correct system failures. The SysAdmin oversees the maintenance of all office machines, patch management and hardware updates.
The SysAdmin must possess extensive experience in system administration. As new technologies emerge and impact our systems, the SysAdmin is expected to learn these technologies very quickly and resolve any problems involved in integrating new technologies with our systems.
The SysAdmin is a key technical resource for other Senior Staff, providing advice, training, and technical support for various projects. In addition, the SysAdmin works closely with professional technical staff in the Information Technologies (IT) management team in evaluating current systems and making decisions on future development. The SysAdmin is largely responsible for determining the direction of technical developments within and overseeing implementation by its operational staff.
b) Detailed Accountabilities/ Responsibilities
(35%) Lead Responsibilities
Communication and Teamwork
Schedule and conduct regular meetings with the IT Operations team.
Attend and actively participate in weekly Staff meetings.
Maintain close contact with everyone on the Project Management team and be aware of all ongoing projects and provide support, guidance and resources as necessary.
Write project proposals, design documents and extensive documentation in Aris. Training will be provided
Attend monthly SysAdmin-Programmer- Desktop Administrator meetings.
Facilitate discussion on the SysAdmin mailing list.
Management
Build a sense of teamwork and cooperation within the IT operations team and other internal staff.
Work closely with other IT Operations Manager and Project Manager, especially the Desktop Administrator and Programmer teams, to accomplish computing goals and business requirements.
Provide structured training for all incoming new staff and project based staff
(35%) Technical Duties
Service, Maintenance, and Support
Work independently to support over 25 Windows servers
Maintain patch management for servers and clients
Maintain Software updates and deployments
Maintain DNS, DHCP, File server, FTP, and proprietary services for Active Directory
Ensure secure operation of all servers and services through extensive staff training and documentation.
Provide desktop support for all office workstations (Second Level support)
Monitor system logs and activity on all servers.
Administrate, verify, and restore from backups.
Replace defective hardware on clients and servers as necessary.
(Second Level support)
Accounts
Maintain integrity of staff accounts and data on the office file server. Perform recovery when possible. (*)
Perform maintenance on staff accounts. Add, remove, and modify accounts as necessary.
Manage security features to protect confidential information while allowing appropriate access
.
Create user mailboxes and maintain mailing lists and aliases.
Development - Research new technologies and present recommendations and justifications on major hardware and software purchases.
Develop and test new servers and services, including writing scripts and patching existing source code
(20%) Administrative Duties
Update and check Corporate system blueprints. (*)
Independently maintain logs of hours worked and for what purpose. (*)
Update equipment inventory for tracking purposes.
Other duties as assigned.
(10%) Documentation
Ensure that all SysAdmin projects are documented, including design documents, ongoing status reports, and summary reports
Document and log all changes to system software and configurations.
Edit and revise project justifications, project documentation, and other reports and documents, internal and public.

Preferred: proficiency with HP-Unix and Solaris 8, Windows 2000, 2003, XP, and HP-Unix operating systems; understanding of the administration of Active Directory, and secure web servers such as IIS with Tomcat; knowledge of Perl and CGI scripting; working knowledge of Bourne/csh shell scripting; knowledge of standard backup infrastructures, UNIX system and program installation, compilation and configuration; system-level security procedures; talent at diagnosing and remedying serious server related problems and failures promptly and effectively; familiarity with cryptography tools; experience maintaining servers for standard internet services such as DNS, NFS, DHCP, LDAP, printing, Exchange and FTP services; previous experience teaching or training others; any experience with Cisco products and VLAN technology a huge plus.
